DraftKings on Monday announced an exclusive, multiyear partnership with U.S. Open champion Bryson DeChambeau, making him the new face of DraftKings and golf betting in time for the Masters.
For DeChambeau, it means he will be sporting a new sponsor in two weeks when The Masters, now the last major of the season, tees off. Starting with this year’s Masters, the DraftKings logo will be featured on DeChambeau’s signature golf cap, according to a news release.
DeChambeau, ranked sixth in the Official World Golf ranking, captured September’s U.S. Open Golf Championship by six strokes over Matthew Wolff at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, New York. It was his first major championship.
“Professional golf has been a key growth sport in both daily fantasy and sports betting, and our collaboration with Bryson DeChambeau is a notable new layer of mainstream brand exposure and fan experience,” Jason Robins, co-founder and CEO of DraftKings, said in the release. “As one of golf’s most promising athletes and the current U.S. Open champion, DraftKings is strategically aligning with winning athletes like Bryson who embody and embolden the competitive fire of our customers.”
DraftKings & Golf
The PGA Tour has announced that DraftKings will be its first “official betting operator” on July 28.
In expanding their partnership agreement, DraftKings was given use of PGA Tour trademarks, have the ability to market on tour platforms and have access to content and video to create pregame and post-game betting programming.
Golf is the fourth-most-popular sport for daily fantasy at DraftKings, while golf sportsbook handle has grown over 10 times year over year. The 2019 Masters ranked among the top five highest-bet sporting events on DraftKings, while 2020 has featured many of the company’s most-popular bet golf tournaments of all time, the release said.
Final Round of Masters is an NFL Sunday
DeChanbeau’s sponsorship will also engage fans such as playing a round of golf with or receiving golf lessons from the U.S. Open champion, said in the news release.
“DraftKings has been at the forefront of innovation for how people experience golf, and the company continues to modernize the game through technology built by and for sports fans,” DeChambeau said in the release. “The gaming industry has already helped golf reach broader audiences, and I am proud to work with DraftKings on boosting fan excitement and engagement in the game.”
With this year’s Masters taking place in November, coinciding with an NFL Sunday during the tournament’s final round, DraftKings is offering a $100,000 free-to-play pool that captures both sports.
This will be the first multi-sport pool DraftKings has developed as this year’s sports calendar continues to adapt in wake of COVID-19, the release said.
