DraftKings launched its mobile and online platform in Iowa on Wednesday.

The Boston-based daily fantasy and sports betting provider was already established in the state through branded sportsbooks in three Wild Rose casinos last fall.

Twelve of 19 sportsbooks in Iowa now have mobile and online options.

DraftKings has seen steady fan engagement in Iowa during the last few months at our three Wild Rose sportsbooks across the state, and we couldn’t be more excited to provide customers with our state-of-the-art mobile sports-betting platform,” DraftKings North America president and co-founder Matt Kalish said in a release. “We have worked diligently to perfect our sportsbook product since it launched in 2018, and starting today, we’re proud to offer Iowans a safe and responsible place to wager on sports — one that can be accessed conveniently from the palm of their hands.”

Details of DraftKings Mobile Debut in Iowa

Though DraftKings mobile will now be available anywhere within Iowa borders, prospective bettors must still register in person at one of their Wild Rose-affilated sportsbooks in Clinton, Emmetsburg or Jefferson.

This stipulation lapses after Jan. 1, 2021.

“We believe DraftKings is offering the best mobile app yet to Iowa sports betting enthusiasts,” Tom Timmons, president and chief operating officer of Wild Rose, said in a release. “Since we opened the sportsbooks, we have been deluged with requests for this app. We are happy to offer it now, with the NCAA Basketball Tournament just around the corner.”

January marked the third consecutive month in which sports betting handle was at least $58 million in Iowa. Of that total, $33.4 million came online, a total DraftKings figures to stoke given its performance in states such as Pennsylvania and Indiana.

Iowa sportsbooks cannot offer player proposition wagers involving an Iowa university or college or an opponent facing them. Pre-match and in-game wagering on Iowa schools and their opponents is permitted.

Illinois Further Squeezed As it Fails to Launch

The DraftKings mobile launch in Iowa allows the company to encompass Illinois and its 12.7 million residents as the state awaits a debut of legal sports betting that will, by regulation, keep DraftKings and FanDuel out of the market for 18 months.

DraftKings already has an online sportsbook in Indiana. The Iowa sports betting market has been newsy this week, with Unibet announcing it will soon open for business there and in Indiana.
