Here's the obligatory reminder potential spoilers lie ahead. You've been warned.

Gendry, the bastard son of the King Robert Baratheon and now lover of Arya Stark, has moved to the odds-on favourite to rule Westeros at the end of Game of Thrones following the airing of the second episode of the final GoT season.

Considered by some the rightful heir to the throne but not a leading character like Jon or Daenerys, Gendry opened the betting market prior to the season in the middle the pack in terms of odds to rule but following a steamy scene with Arya in Episode 2 his odds were slashed.

Gendry's Odds Slashed While Jon's Lengthen

LeoVegas Sport is currently offering Gendry at 7/4 to rule Westeros at the show's end, which puts the former King's bastard as the favourite ahead of Bran and Sansa Stark as well as Jon Snow/Aegon Targeryen who slips to 4/1.

Bran Stark opened the market as favourite across almost every bookie offering odds on Game of Thrones but now that we are two episodes in and on the cusp of third this Sunday, LeoVegas feels Gendry is the one most likely to be ruling when the show's final scene cuts.

Thanks to very little action in the first two episodes this season, Bran Stark's odds are still the shortest across most bookmakers but Gendry has had his odds shorten with those sites as well.

Jon/Aegon is actually the character oddsmakers are losing faith in. LeoVegas, for example, has also moved Sansa ahead of him along with Gendry.

Gendry's Path to the Iron Throne

The first season of Game of Thrones opens with King Robert Baratheon ruling the Seven Kingdoms. He is the first Baratheon to sit on the Iron Throne following his defeat of the "Mad King", King Aerys Targaryen II.

Aerys and House Targaryen ruled Westeros for 300 years until Robert's rebellion almost saw their bloodline ended. The last living Targaryens - as far as we know - are Daenerys and Jon, who we now know was named Aegon at birth.

Aegon's real parents, Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen, named him after the original Aegon Targaryen I who conquered Westeros and started their family's reign.

These recently confirmed developments surrounding Jon have many believing he is the rightful heir but others view House Baratheon's rule as legitimate meaning the Targaryen's reign is over regardless of any living family members.

Robert Baratheon was named the king by the surviving families of the rebellion which should mean House Baratheon would now produce the ruler of the the Seven Kingdoms. Despite Targaryens still walking the earth, some believe once Robert was named king, his children became the rightful heirs to the throne.

Following confirmation Joffery, Myrcella and Tommen were not Robert's offspring, the only living male of Robert Baratheon is Gendry. If those who survive the Winter follow this line of thought, Gendry as the favourite to sit on the throne isn't so far-fetch.
