David Silva is expected to return to Valencia next year after announcing 2019/20 will be his final season in a Manchester City shirt.
The diminutive midfielder is widely regarded as one of English football’s greatest ever imports, having won four Premier League titles, two FA Cups and four EFL Cups since arriving in 2010.
To date he has played 395 games for City and, having scored six league goals for the back-to-back champions last season, the 33-year-old is likely to play yet another key role as Pep Guardiola looks for three Premier League titles in a row next term.
"Ten years for me is enough. It's the perfect time for me,” said the Spaniard in a press conference in Gran Canaria.
"Initially, City were talking about two years, but I decided to sign [for] another one, so I finished at 10 years.
"It completes the cycle. It's a nice round figure. I can never see myself playing against City for another team. So 10 years – that's it.”
Silva played over 100 games for Valencia before moving to Manchester, and the early betting suggests he could be open to an emotional return to the Mestalla next summer.
David Silva's Next Club Odds
|To Sign For In 2020||Odds|
|Any Japanese Club||3/1|
|Any MLS Club||5/1|
|Any Chinese Club||7/1|
Betway have opened the market at 5/2 (+250) on Valencia to be his next club, though a big-money deal to either Japan or the MLS could tempt the Spaniard.
Betway also offer 7/1 (+700) for Silva to make a U-turn and sign an extension at City, while it’s 8/1 (+800) he returns to the Spanish national side for the Euro 2020 campaign.
Betway spokseman Alan Alger said: “Winding down in Spain for the twilight years sounds appealing and 5/2 for a return to Valencia next season suggests that could be exactly what David Silva is planning.
“The draw of earning a bit more cash before hanging up the boots is always going to be there though, and clubs in Japan, 3/1, or the MLS, 5/1, could come up with an offer too good to refuse.”
Silva has also lifted the World Cup and European Championships for his country in a glorious career that is likely to roll on for another few seasons yet.
