UFC Vegas 66 Main Event Best Bet

Sean Strickland (-120) vs. Jared Cannonier (+100)

The main event of UFC Vegas 66 is a five-round middleweight fight between Sean Strickland and Jared Cannonier. Strickland is the -120 favorite on betting apps, and I believe he will win this fight.

Strickland has been in the UFC since 2014 and he’s 12-4 overall since then, including a 5-1 record as a middleweight. The 31-year-old American is coming off of a brutal KO loss to Alex Pereira, but now that Pereira is the world champion, that loss doesn’t look so bad in hindsight.

Prior to that defeat, Strickland had won six straight fights and he was looking every bit the contender at 185 lbs. He has strong technical boxing and his ability to outland his opponents on the feet allows him to rack up points on the judges’ scorecards and take home the decision.

Cannonier is also one of the best middleweights in the UFC. Despite being 37, the American is still at the top of his game, and going five hard rounds with former champ Israel Adesanya in his last fight showed that. A UFC fighter since 2015, Cannonier is 8-6 overall in the UFC, which includes a 5-2 record as a middleweight.

He is one of the biggest and strongest middleweights and he packs a massive punch in his hands. However, if he doesn’t land that big shot on the feet, he can be outstruck in terms of volume, which is likely why he’s the underdog here.

This should be an awesome fight between two of the best middleweights in the world. With Strickland being the younger fighter, plus holding the edge in terms of striking volume, I believe he will be able to pick apart Cannonier from the outside and win the fight on the scorecards. Take Strickland to win at -120 and you can take him to win by decision if you like props.

Other UFC Vegas 66 Best Bets

Amir Albazi (-425) vs. Alessandro Costa (+350)

Also on the main card, Amir Albazi takes on Alessandro Costa. Albazi is a -425 favorite and I expect him to defeat Costa for another impressive UFC victory.

Albazi joined the UFC in 2020 and so far he’s a perfect 3-0 in the Octagon. The 29-year-old Iraq native has an awesome ground game in particular, which has allowed him to rack up nine career submission wins.

His ground game is enough for him to get his hand raised against the majority of the opponents he’ll face in the UFC since they won’t be able to control where the fight takes place. If he lands a takedown on Costa, this should be an easy fight for him.

UFC Vegas 66 Odds, Picks & Predictions For Cannonier vs. Strickland 1

The 26-year-old Brazilian Costa won a split decision on Dana White’s Contender Series back in July, but the UFC passed on signing him as his performance wasn’t overly impressive. Since then, he picked up one win on the regional scene by knockout, and the UFC decided to bring him in on short notice when Albazi’s original opponent, Brandon Royval, fell off the card. Costa is a decent fighter and might win a fight in the UFC, but this particular matchup is a tough one.

This fight should prove to be a walk in the park for Albazi, who should hold a significant grappling advantage in this fight. Costa is tough, so I’m expecting this fight to hit the scorecards, but give me Albazi to get the win as a -425 favorite on UFC betting sites. If you want a prop, take Albazy by decision.

Drew Dober (-150) vs. Bobby Green (+130)

Finally, we have a lightweight battle between veteran fan favorites Drew Dober and Bobby Green. Despite Green being a +130 underdog, I favor him to get his hand raised in this fight.

Green has been in the UFC since 2013 and he has a 10-8-1 overall record in the Octagon since then. The 36-year-old American has some of the best boxing skills in the UFC lightweight division and it’s led to him becoming a fan favorite over the years due to his exciting fighting style.

He lands nearly six significant strikes per minute on his opponent while only absorbing less than four, meaning he is able to rack up the volume on his opponents. Although he doesn’t have a ton of power in his punches, his ability to outland his opponents is his key to victory.

Dober is 11-7, 1 NC overall in the UFC since joining the promotion back in 2013. Since then, the 34-year-old American has proven to be a very fun fighter to watch as he typically stands and trades in his fights. He has hammers in his fists, packing a huge punch that has allowed him to rack up seven knockout wins in the Octagon.

He also has one of the best chins in the UFC, having never been knocked out in the Octagon. That being said, he’s very hittable, and his takedown defense isn’t great. He’s a good fighter, but he’s someone that can also be beaten.

Overall, I’m expecting a very exciting standup-based fight between two talented strikers. However, with Green holding the technical boxing advantage plus the edge in head movement and hand speed, I believe he will be able to box up Dober and win a decision. Take Green as a +130 underdog and take him to win by decision if you like betting on props.
