Will Roy Hodgson See Out the 2023/24 Campaign?

Crystal Palace are reportedly considering their managerial options as the team continue to struggle in the Premier League. Roy Hodgson did a brilliant job after replacing Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira last season, but the team have been poor this year. Only the bottom two teams in the league, Burnley and Sheffield United, have scored fewer goals than Palace's 26. They are 15th in the league, just five points above Everton in 18th.

There are rumours circulating that Hodgson's place at the Selhurst Park helm is at risk, but betting sites have not opened up a market as of yet. Former Brighton and Chelsea manager Graham Potter was spotted at the Emirates Stadium to see the Eagles' 5-0 defeat to Arsenal in January, which only increased speculation about Hodgson's future. Palace then beat Sheffield United before being humbled by Brighton 4-1 at the weekend and then losing 3-1 to Chelsea.

Betting apps now have odds for the next Crystal Palace manager, and we will run through the likely candidates for the role to keep them in the Premier League with former Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper sitting atop the market pretty much since the market opened until today, and he is joined by the likes of Julen Lopetegui and Bo Svensson. Graham Potter has shortened significantly into the second favourite for the role, and he could be one to watch. However, it is current Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna who has shortened the most in recent days. He came from a double-figure price to being odds-on before the Monday night defeat to Chelsea. He sits atop the market, but he is followed in the betting by Cooper and former Frankfurt boss Oliver Glasner.

Will Kieran McKenna Take His First Premier League Role?

Northern Irish managerial prospect Kieran McKenna has made a huge impression this season with Ipswich Town in the Championship. Having taken over the role in 2021, he has taken The Tractor Boys from the bottom half of League One to challenging for promotion to the Premier League. Having previously worked on the coaching staff at Manchester United and Tottenham, he is no stranger to a Premier League set up, and it's probably only a matter of time as to when he returns to manage in the top division.

Steve Cooper Available After Nottingham Forest Sack

Steve Cooper did a phenomenal job with Nottingham Forest, taking them from the bottom of the Championship to promotion via the playoffs in the same season. He then kept the team afloat in their first Premier League campaign for over 20 years despite having to manage a squad that signed 30 players throughout the 2022/23 season.

The former England under-17 and Swansea manager was expected to take the team forward this season amid another summer of heavy spending, but a run of one win from 12 Premier League matches led him to be relieved of his duties in December. However, his reputation is very much intact, and if Palace were able to secure his signature, it would be seen as a real coup. While the market at new betting sites is yet to open, it is likely that Cooper will be of interest to the heriarchy at Palace if the job becomes available.

Potter Likely to be on the Palace Manager Shortlist

If Hodgson is given the boot, it's possible that Graham Potter will take charge of his third Premier League club in the space of two years. The former Swansea manager was in charge at Brighton at the beginning of the 2022/23 season before defecting to Chelsea, where he served an ill-fated spell before being given the heave-ho.

While Potter is a far richer man than he was prior to signing a five-year contract with the Blues, he will be keen to return to the dug out and rebuild his managerial reputation. The Englishman barely put a foot wrong at Brighton when transforming the Seagulls from relegation strugglers to top-half material, and he certainly laid the foundations for their success under Roberto De Zerbi.

The bookies will likely have Potter among the top candidates to be given the nod, and he is someone who could have a longer-term future at the club than Hodgson ever did.

Julen Lopetegui Biding Time for Another Premier League Chance

Former Real Madrid manager Julen Lopetegui took over Wolves at the bottom of the Premier League in November 2022, but he successfully steered to a comfortable 13th-place finish, seven points above the drop zone. However, rumours emerged of unrest at the club at the beginning of the summer, as Wolves needed to tighten the purse strings to stay in line with financial fair play rules.

Lopetegui left the team before they started the Premier Legaue campaign, to be replaced by Gary O'Neil. The Spaniard has been linked with a number of jobs by football betting sites but is reportedly waiting for another crack in the Premier League. Given his track record, Lopetegui would also be seen as quite the coup if Palace could convince him to be their next manager.

Jose Mourinho the Biggest Name on the Market

Ten years ago it would have been unthinkable that Jose Mourinho might have considered moving to a club the size of Crystal Palace. He was in his second stint with Chelsea having achieved hige success with the west London club previously as well as at Porto, Inter Milan and Real Madrid. However, the self-proclaimed Special One has seen his reputation take a fall with relatively dismal stints in charge of Tottenham and Manchester United.

His most recent job was in charge of Roma, and he led them to their first trophy since 2008 when winning the Europa Conference League in 2022. He then led Roma to the final of the Europa League last season, only to lose to Sevilla on penalties. This season was poor for the Italian giants in Serie A, and he was sacked in January. Would he be interested in another return to the Premier League with the Eagles?

Hasenhuttl Could Be a Runner for Palace Job

Ralph Hasenhuttl could yet return to the Premier League. Many feel as though the Austrian wasn't given the financial backing that he needed at Southampton. Before the Saints' relegation at the end of the 2022/23 season, the manager had successfully kept the Hampshire outfit afloat for several seasons, and we are sure to see the 56-year-old back before long.

The manager was in charge of RB Leipzig between 2016-18, and perhaps he will return to Germany, Austria or Switzerland for his next managerial role, although it would come as no surprise if Palace sounded him out regarding his availability to take charge of the reins at Selhurst Park.
