Tip 1 - 1:58 Ayr - Lavida Adiva

It’s been over six months since Lavida Adiva was last seen but her form this year has been particularly impressive with figures of 2412 between February and April. The last two of those runs were over today’s distance, with the latter at Ayr whilst the former was a Listed victory at Kelso. Every other horse in this field bar one has also been away for over 200 days so Lavida Adiva won’t be the only one with cobwebs.

Tip 2 - 2:05 Ascot - Martator

There are some high-quality performers in this race, but it is the course form of Venetia Williams’ Martator that really intrigues us. The eight-year-old is three from three over course and distance including in a Grade 3 race at this meeting last year on seasonal reappearance, which he is making Saturday. Tailed off at the end of last season but has shown he can compete from this mark of 141 having won from 140 previously. Claimer Ned Fox takes off five pounds and was on board him last time Martator made it to the winner’s enclosure.

Tip 3 - 2:57 Wetherby - The Real Whacker

With most of the field running over further than their optimum trip this could be an opportunity for The Real Whacker to pick up a big early season prize. His career best performance came in this race last year when he went from the front and stayed on to pick up the spoils. He could do much the same here against a number of horses who probably don’t want three miles. The only one who does is Hewick, and he hasn’t won over fences for almost two years now since his success in the King George in 2023.

Tip 4 - 10:25 Del Mar – Forever Young

The best of the best in the US have pretty much taken turns beating one another this year and it may well pay to side with the Japanese runner in the Breeders’ Cup Classic. Forever Young was a staying-on third in the race last year and should be able to fare better on Saturday night. He’s landed two Group 1s since then, including the Saudi Cup back in February. A disappointing showing as odds on favourite in the Dubai World Cup can be pinned on it coming at the end of a long season. Fresh off his comeback run a month ago, he should be primed to give Japan a famous win in this race.

What is the Staking Plan and How Does a 1pt Win System Work?

We advise each bet as a win single or sometimes as an each way single. You can of course choose to combine the selections in a multiple bet, a Lucky 15 or a Yankee etc and that is a very popular way to follow the horses selected in this column daily.

A 1pt win per horse is advised in general and that means whatever your normal stake is for a bet is used as a point. For many this is £1 and for some this is £10 or more but it is totally relative to the individual and shouldn’t be more than you can afford to lose at any time. 

For each way selections we advise a 0.5pt each way stake. So as with the win selections this would be a £1 total bet (50 pence each way) or a £10 total bet (£5 each way).
