Tip 1 - 1:50 York - Trefor
Plenty of chances in this 20-runner field, but our eye is drawn to progressive four-year-old Trefor, who looks to have a great draw from stall seven. Down a pound for latest second by a neck at Windsor nine days ago and has shaped as if this intermediate distance would suit very nicely. Five furlongs has been too short and while winning five times over six, four of those have been by half a length or less, so 5.5f today should be about perfect.

Tip 2 - 2:40 Carlisle - Sole Spirit
This seems like a two-horse race between the pair at the top of the betting. It could be something of a toss up between them, but we think Sole Spirit has more to come, having looked a different animal in his three-year-old campaign. He’s two from two this summer, with the sixth home 12 days ago at Thirsk getting up to win just four days later to frank the form.

Tip 3 - 4:10 York - Fireblade
Fireblade has gone from strength-to-strength in the last 12 months, starting his career with consistent seconds and thirds but not picking up a win until April this year. The progressive four-year-old has steadily improved since, with recent form of 2231, with that victory coming 11 days ago in the Class 2 Shergar Cup at Ascot. That was over 2m, like today’s race, and a 5lb rise could hamper him, but he’s shown enough to believe there’s more to come.

What is the Staking Plan and How Does a 1pt Win System Work?
We advise each bet as a win single or sometimes as an each way single. You can of course choose to combine the selections in a multiple bet, a Lucky 15 or a Yankee etc and that is a very popular way to follow the horses selected in this column daily.
A 1pt win per horse is advised in general and that means whatever your normal stake is for a bet is used as a point. For many this is £1 and for some this is £10 or more but it is totally relative to the individual and shouldn’t be more than you can afford to lose at any time.
For each way selections we advise a 0.5pt each way stake. So as with the win selections this would be a £1 total bet (50 pence each way) or a £10 total bet (£5 each way).
