Tip 1 - 1:55 Goodwood - Sam Hawkens
In great form this year, winning the last two. The softer ground on offer at Goodwood this week is only going to play into this four-year-old’s hands with previous success on heavy ground and ground on the softer side of good. Steps up into Class 2 from Class 3, which brings with it a lighter weight. Tom Marquand back on board after teaming up for victory in Newcastle a plus.

Tip 2 - 2:10 Newmarket - Awaafi
Sayidah Hard Spun sets a decent standard, but she is giving a lot of weight away to the lightly raced Awaafi, who could very well improve past her. Awaafi is related to a couple of horses who have ended up with triple digit ratings, so the breeding suggests there is more to come. She probably wasn’t close enough to the pace last time out and couldn’t get near the winner late on despite not really stopping. More positive tactics could yield better results today.

Tip 3 - 3:05 Goodwood - The X O e/w
The X O started his career with two wins from four starts. 16 runs since haven’t yielded another victory, but it’s worth noting that most of his best runs have come with ease in the ground. He was beaten out of sight on all bar two runs last year, which happened to be the only two runs with “soft” in the going description. As a result, his handicap mark has slipped from 104 at the beginning of last season to 92. A switch to Robert Cowell, a dab hand with sprint handicappers, may pay dividends, and he could outrun his massive odds.

Tip 4 - 3:20 Newmarket - Karmology
Karmology is now a year without victory since winning at York last July, but there have been plenty of encouraging signs since then with five seconds in eight races. Two of those have come in each of her two most recent outings, both Listed affairs over today’s distance of 1m4f, and another strong run today will see her there or thereabouts at the finishing post once again.

What is the Staking Plan and How Does a 1pt Win System Work?
We advise each bet as a win single or sometimes as an each way single. You can of course choose to combine the selections in a multiple bet, a Lucky 15 or a Yankee etc and that is a very popular way to follow the horses selected in this column daily.
A 1pt win per horse is advised in general and that means whatever your normal stake is for a bet is used as a point. For many this is £1 and for some this is £10 or more but it is totally relative to the individual and shouldn’t be more than you can afford to lose at any time.
For each way selections we advise a 0.5pt each way stake. So as with the win selections this would be a £1 total bet (50 pence each way) or a £10 total bet (£5 each way).
