Tip 1 - 1:35 Ascot - Manaccan
Manaccan has clearly had his problems, having run just three times since winning a Dundalk Group 3 in October 2022. That win gave him a rating of 111, and he now finds himself in a handicap off 100. He showed some early dash on his comeback in a Royal Ascot Group 1 this year before fading to finish last. There’s every reason to believe he needed that run after more than two years off the track. At his best, he’d win this doing handstands. His price is big enough to punt on him still having enough in the tank at this stage of his career.

Tip 2 - 2:10 Ascot - Dancing In Paris
The top two in the betting at the time of writing juked it out at Newcastle on the all-weather in June, with Spirit Mixer beating Dancing In Paris by a neck. They meet on the same terms again, but the hope is that Dancing In Paris doesn’t drift right at the end, which is what likely caused the defeat in June. Looked to be closing last week when beaten by Sam Hawkens, so the return to two miles will only be a positive. Dario Di Tocco is making his debut on these shores, but he has been Italian champion jockey the last two years.

Tip 3 - 2:25 Haydock - Never Let Go
Never Let Go has gone from strength-to-strength in her short career, winning on two of her six starts and most impressively taking the Sandringham Stakes crown at Ascot in June, winning by a length at 22/1. This race represents a much tougher test, being a grade higher and upped 7lbs by the handicapper since last time, but a third-place finish by under a length in a Listed race in May is a positive.

Tip 4 - 3:00 Brighton - Detain
Detain didn’t enjoy his time at Ascot, and was far too keen throughout the race, but he is a massive danger getting the weight allowances from the older horses. Getting an 8lb allowance despite only being rated 1lb lower than top rated in the race puts him very much on the front foot. A repeat of his run in the Prix du Jockey Club puts him at a level the others can’t match giving the weight away.

What is the Staking Plan and How Does a 1pt Win System Work?
We advise each bet as a win single or sometimes as an each way single. You can of course choose to combine the selections in a multiple bet, a Lucky 15 or a Yankee etc and that is a very popular way to follow the horses selected in this column daily.
A 1pt win per horse is advised in general and that means whatever your normal stake is for a bet is used as a point. For many this is £1 and for some this is £10 or more but it is totally relative to the individual and shouldn’t be more than you can afford to lose at any time.
For each way selections we advise a 0.5pt each way stake. So as with the win selections this would be a £1 total bet (50 pence each way) or a £10 total bet (£5 each way).
