The Jacksonville Jaguars snuck into the AFC Playoffs in 2022 with a 9-8 record because the AFC South was subpar across the board. The Jaguars went 9-8 against in 2023, but it wasn’t enough with the Houston Texans surging into control of the division.

Another 9-8 season likely won’t get it done again, so the Jaguars – who, to their credit, averaged 3.5 wins for four years before the last two above-.500 campaigns – must take a bigger step in the right direction to keep up.

Bookies.com veteran oddsmaker Adam Thompson has used his resources of NFL contacts developed over 20 years covering the league and the NFL Draft to create his hypothetical NFL futures odds on who gets selected 17th by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Who Will The Jaguars Take In The 2024 NFL Draft?

The Jaguars had several concerns to address this off-season, but did a fine job addressing many of them. They added Ronald Darby to show up the cornerback position and Arik Armstead to help the interior D-line. J’ville also added WR Gabe Davis to help offset the loss of Calvin Ridley to the rival Titans.

The receiver remains a position of question. However, improving an offensive line that has questions at tackle and guard, and protecting for Trevor Lawrence, is a key. Improving the pass defense is also a priority. There are no safeties among the Top 20 prospects, but a few cornerbacks.

Quinyon Mitchell of Toledo is likely off the board, but Terrion Arnold, a physical CB from Alabama, could be sitting there. NFL.com has Arnold as a close No. 2 among all corners. If the First-Team All-American is sitting there at No. 17, his addition plus Darby flips a weakness into a strength.

The top tackles are likely gone by No. 17. The leading wideouts, too, though Brian Thomas Jr. of LSU could slip right into Jacksonville’s hands. The 6-3 Thomas gives Lawrence a new, big target. At this spot, the Jaguars’ best strategy might be going the “best available” route. There are a lot of “if’s” depending on who’s available. If OT Amarius Mims of Georgia or OG Jackson Powers-Johnson of Oregon will be considered if around.
