2020 Kentucky Derby: Complete Field, Odds & Post Position

Belmont Stakes winner and Kentucky Derby betting favorite Tiz the Law drew the not-so-lucky No. 17 post position for Saturday’s 146th Run For The Roses at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky.
Horses have gone 0-for-41 from the No. 17 post throughout the derby’s history.
Tiz The Law is unbeaten and unchallenged as a 3-year-old. He dominated the Grade 1 Florida Derby and Travers, in addition to his 3 3/4-length romp in the shortened Belmont on June 20. He was installed as a 3-5 favorite on the Tuesday morning Kentucky Derby line.
This year, the derby will be the second race in the Triple Crown for the first time. It will retain its traditional 1 ¼-mile length. Post time on Saturday is 7:02 p.m. ET and the race will be televised by NBC. There will be no fans in attendance at Churchill Downs because of concerns over the coronavirus.

The final race of the 2020 Triple Crown, the Preakness Stakes, is set for Oct. 3 at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore.
The horse considered to be the biggest potential threat to Tiz The Law — Art Collector — will not be running Saturday due to a hoof injury.
Trainer Tommy Drury Jr. said the horse "nicked the bulb of his left front heel with a hind hoof while galloping Monday at Churchill Downs,” according to a release from Churchill Downs. Art Collector had won five straight starts, including the Ellis Park Derby.
Tiz the Law will be joined on the outside by the other two main betting contenders. The second choice in the field of 18 — Honor A.P. — is 5-1 in the morning line and will occupy the No. 16 post. The No. 3 pick Authentic is at 8-1 from No. 18.
Art Collector’s spot was taken by South Bend. Finnick the Fierce was scratched on Friday but the No. 1 gate that he drew will be left vacant. Program numbers remained unchanged, a Derby news release said.
