Donald Trump does what he wants, and political insiders expect nothing less when it comes time to make his vice presidential selection for the 2024 US presidential election.

The belief is that Trump plans to make a VP announcement at the Republican Convention, set for July 15-18 in Milwaukee. But who will he pick?

Bookies.com veteran oddsmaker Adam Thompson has surveyed the landscape and revealed his betting odds to Trump’s running mate for 2024.

Top Contenders Donald Trump's 2024 Vice Presidential Pick

The general idea, according to the New York Times, is that Trump’s campaign doesn’t need to woo voters from a specific swing state or a group of people, as presidential candidates often attempt to do with their VP pick. People who vote for Trump will be voting for Trump.

Therefore, the general game plan for choosing a running mate is to choose someone who more aligns with his beliefs and interests.

Ohio senator J.D. Vance has been one of Trump’s vocal supporters, and he has other impressive credentials, as a published author and a Yale Law School graduate. But Vance is also inexperienced, at just 39 with two years of elected political experience.

Vance has become the frontrunner as Monday's expected announcement looms, but nothing is a done deal until Trump says it is.

Former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy is just 38 and commanded the stage at each Republican debate last year, for better or sometimes worse. He owns degrees from both Harvard and Yale with a net worth of nearly $1 billion due to business successes but has never held a political office.

Doug Burgum is the governor of North Dakota and a pro-business candidate. Trump’s first major benefactor, billionaire tech investor Tom Siebel, who a massive check to Trump’s campaign due to Bergum being in the mix for VP. But Trump loves someone who can command a stage, and Burgum is relatively untested at such a level.

South Carolina senator Tim Scott considered his own run at the presidency but bowed out last fall. He’s worked on the campaign trail for Trump and would be a potential African-American candidate to woo minority voters.

Marco Rubio was an early contender for the Republican ticket four years ago, but was bullied and ultimately vanquished by Trump in the primaries. The two have since made up and become allies – to an extent. Rubio isn’t an all-in, “yessir” candidate. Does that appeal to, or deter, Trump? Social media rumors indicate Rubio was told on Monday he would not be Trump's running mate, but he can't be discounted until it's official. Only Trump can confirm anything Trump is about to do or say.

In a recent straw poll on who should be Trump’s running mate, Vance garnered a whopping 43% of the vote. Scott (15.4%), Rubio (7.7%), and Burgum (7.0%) were next in line.

Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton is another Ivy League guy and a military veteran. He’s also, according to the Times, more of a moderate, “central-leaning” Republican. Like Vance, Cotton often makes the rounds on TV talk shows to promote the former President.

Tennessee senator Bill Hagerty has hit the fundraising circuit on Trump’s behalf. He’s long been in the camp, as a former equity investor and Trump’s ambassador to Japan.

New York congresswoman Elise Stefanik was lauded for hammering college presidents about the antisemitism on their campuses. Stefanik, 39, was first elected at age 30 and is the youngest House Republican in a leadership role.

In a different poll earlier this year, South Dakota governor Kristi Noem and Ramaswamy were the top vote-getters.

Noem, the first female governor in her state’s history, is a farmer and former U.S. Representative. She has ripped Biden for his poor international relations records and praised Trump for most of his policies.

The Field (everyone else) is led by pediatric surgeon and former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development under Trump, Ben Carson, who has stayed in the news, knocking Joe Biden’s cognitive decline as a reason to side with Trump in November. While Trump respects Carson, his own scandals over the years could keep him off the ticket
