Michigan’s incumbent Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is odds-on to win a second-term in office as we look at the latest politics betting markets trading with UK bookmaker, Ladbrokes.

Gov. Whitmer will face Republican candidate Tudor Dixon, who came out on top of a five-candidate race to clinch the GOP nod in Michigan’s primary last month.

The Michigan gubernatorial race is one of several key political contests the punditocracy is going to be keenly following this fall, when the 2022 US Midterm Elections get underway on Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2022.  

The Midwest-battleground state has proven to be deciding in the last two US Elections. It follows that it’s very likely to be just as influential again in the upcoming 2024 US Elections.

Whitmer Wins Primary Unopposed

Gov. Whitmer ran in last month’s Democratic primary unopposed and she will be relying on incumbency to defeat her Republican challenger in November. 

However, like her Democratic counterparts across the country, Whitmer will need to beat back the wave of discontent spreading toward the Biden administration and historical trends that point to midterms going against the party in power in the nation’s capital. 

The nation’s disenfranchisement is complex, but at the crux of it is an alarming cost of living crisis, rising inflation and growing unemployment.

Trump Endorses Dixon

The GOP primary featured mainly newcomers with limited political experience and low-scale public profiles – none had run for office previously, let alone won an election. 

Arguably, Tudor Dixon, a businesswoman and former conservative commentator, was the best known candidate. She received Trump’s endorsement during the race, along with a number of other high-profile, in-state endorsements from the Michigan police, Michigan Chamber of Commerce and the billionaire DeVos family.

Whitmer Leads Dixon By Odds and Polls

As per the sportsbook betting exchange, Whitmer is the runaway favorite at -1000 on betting sites to win in November while Dixon is the quintessential long-shot bet at +550.  

A number of polls released over the last few weeks support this rather lopsided market outlook on betting apps. For example, a recently published Detroit News/WDIV-TV poll showed Whitmer sitting on a 13-point advantage over Dixon with respondents to the survey,

According to those polled, Whitmer had 48% of the respondents' support to Dixon’s 35%. The poll was conducted from Aug 29 to Sep. 1 with 600 respondents participating in the survey.
