Tyson Fury's dominant performance in his second meeting against Deontay Wilder on Feb. 22 earned him the nod from boxing betting bookmakers around the globe as the overwhelming favorite in the showdown scheduled for July 18.

Fury (30-0-01, 21 KOs) is -400 according to 888Sport. Wilder (42-0-1, 41 KOs) follows at +275.

Fury vs. Wilder 3 is set to take place in the U.S. this summer, likely in Las Vegas, according to ESPN's Dan Rafael. Those terms were already in place before the second fight, so when Wilder enacted his rematch clause to force the trilogy, the two sides didn't have to go back to the negotiating table.

Why Fury Is Big Favorite vs. Wilder

Fury, 31, and Wilder, 34, fought to a split draw in December 2018. While Fury seemed to outbox Wilder in the majority of rounds, the hard-hitting American knocked Fury down twice to knot the judges in disagreement.

But last month, Fury completely dismantled Wilder and stopped the previously unbeaten puncher in the seventh round.

In each of those two previous contests, oddsmakers saw Fury-Wilder as pick'em fights. But that won't be the situation for the third one. In the second bout, Fury seemed to prove without doubt he was the superior operator. He looked bigger, stronger and just plain better than Wilder. Fury was the early favorite but by the time of the fight the majority of the betting action was on Wilder so sportsbooks generally made out very well when Fury won.

Deontay Wilder Didn't Handle First Loss Well

Wilder gave credit to Fury for beating him immediately after the fight, but then the American went on a media campaign over the next week in which he blamed things like the costume he wore entering the ring for the loss. Wilder also initially said he planned to fire one of his trainers, Mark Breland, because Breland asked referee Kenny Bayless to stop the fight when it became clear Wilder was having trouble defending himself.

Deontay Wilder said his heavy costume that he wore for his ring entrance was partly to blame for his loss because it made his legs tired.

Additionally, Wilder complained about how Bayless worked the fight.

Undisputed Heavyweight Champion Possible in 2020?

Meanwhile, Fury's win netted him the WBC heavyweight title along with designations as heavyweight champion per The Ring magazine and the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board. While boxing's championship system is overcomplicated and somewhat absurd, winning those titles added clarity to a division that also features Anthony Johsua as the IBF, WBA and WBO champ.

Of course, the best remedy for the situation would be for Fury and Joshua to square off later this year. Should both win their next fights and agree to an all-British heavyweight boxing clash, that massive event would crown the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis defeated Evander Holyfield in 1999.
