Is Erik ten Hag running out of time at Manchester United? The 53-year-old was appointed in the summer of 2022 and enjoyed a successful first season in charge of the Red Devils. However, the Dutchman is enduring a difficult second campaign right now. The fixture schedule hasn't been kind, although defeats to Tottenham, Arsenal, Brighton and Bayern Munich have raised a number of red flags.

There's been a rather public fall-out with the estranged Jadon Sancho, with Ten Hag also citing a lack of determination in the Allianz Arena defeat, and there is now speculation over whether he will be replaced. In this article, we will look at the potential candidates that could replace Ten Hag at Old Trafford, with Zinedine Zidane, Julian Nagelsmann and Graham Potter likely to be among the favourites with the best betting apps

Zidane Likely Favourite to Replace Ten Hag at United

Zinedine Zidane achieved great things with Real Madrid during his two spells with the giant Spanish club, with the Frenchman having won two La Liga titles at the Bernabeu although his real legacy was landing three Champions League crowns. He has worked with some of the best players in the world - including Cristiano Ronaldo already - and might relish the challenge that could come available at Old Trafford.

There were strong rumours linking Zidane to the Manchester United hot seat when the 51-year-old left Real Madrid and perhaps he would enjoy a project where there's a talented squad of players at his disposal who might be yet to realise their full potential.

Although he is likely to be among the favourites, there is some doubt about how much desire Zidane has to work in English football. Reports from France suggest Zidane is content to take a back seat from management while he waits for his old colleague Didier Deschamps to step aside from the national team job, although the latter continues in his role for now.

Nagelsmann Could be Linked to Old Trafford Again

Julian Nagelsmann has achieved a lot in football management despite only being aged 36. The German took charge of Hoffenheim between 2016-2019 and impressed to the extent that he was poached by RB Leipzig. After a successful spell between 2019-2021, the former centre-back was then recruited by Bayern Munich, although the Bavarian club decided to replace him with Thomas Tuchel last season.

Nagelsmann has been appointed the interim Germany maanager until after Euro 2024, but he's been linked to the Manchester United managerial post in the past by football betting sites. He is regarded as one of the brightest young managers in the game who is tactically astute and has a love of playing attacking football. It would be no surprise if Manchester United sounded him out when it came to the position, especially if Ten Hag continues to struggle.

Much depends on whether the coach has an appetite to manage at a club who appear to have been overtaken by several of their counterparts right now. The landscape has changed since Sir Alex Ferguson steered United to their last title success in the 2012/13 season, and perhaps Nagelsmann would prefer to hold out for a different position.

Could Potter Return to Premier League With Red Devils?

Graham Potter has become something of a forgotten man in the space of a few months. The Englishman was in charge of a high-flying Brighton & Hove Albion team 12 months ago who actually opened the 2022/23 season with a victory at Old Trafford. The Seagulls continued to soar under him to the extent where a Chelsea under new ownership made an approach for him to replace Thomas Tuchel.

Potter decided to make the switch to Stamford Bridge but struggled to make an impact for the Blues in the Premier League. After being inflicted with £500 million worth of signings during the January transfer window, the former Swansea boss was given his marching orders and has since been out of work after receiving a rather handsome pay out from Chelsea.

There have been reports linking Potter to a number of clubs and perhaps his interest will be piqued by United if they made some kind of approach, with the bookies making him one of the betting favourites.

Could Pochettino End Up Managing United?

Mauricio Pochettino is the current manager of Chelsea Football Club, although the Argentine has endured a difficult start to the 2023/24 season. The former Tottenham boss was hired in the summer and will surely be given time to create a winning team for this ambitious club.

It's not out of the question that Pochettino could end up parting company with his current employers considering that Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter both severed ties last term. If that ended up being the case, perhaps United could make an approach for someone who was favourite to take charge before Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was given the reins on a permanent basis.

Conte and Southgate Potentially in United Manager Betting

Antonio Conte might have had his fill of managing in England after roles with Chelsea and Tottenham, although the Italian is once again a free agent.  The 54-year-old has enjoyed a successful career and actually managed to win the Premier League title during his first campaign with Chelsea, although his time at Spurs was less successful despite guiding them to a top-four finish.

Gareth Southgate is likely to be trading at a similar price to land the United role, although it doesn't seem like a plausible appointment. The England manager hasn't been involved in club coaching for a long time, and he is likely to remain part of the FA set-up.
