The appointment of Russell Martin was supposed to usher in a new era for Rangers, but after just 17 games in charge the Englishman has been given his marching orders. The Gers have won just won match in the Scottish Premiership and were ignominiously dumped out of Champions League qualifying with a humiliating 9-1 aggregate defeat to Club Brugge.

Kevin Muscat Next Man In Line

Kevin Muscat earned a fearsome reputation as a player with his name consistently taken in the referee's book. He has also earned himself a reputation as a top manager since his retirement from playing. He has won leagues in Australia, Japan and China, and perhaps he is now ready to cut his teeth in Europe. He is the current favourite at many top UK betting sites, but it is believed he wouldn't be available to start managing until mid-November.

After Philippe Clement was relieved of his duties in February, he was replaced by former Rangers captain Barry Ferguson until the end of the season. The hierarchy decided they weren't impressed enough with his temporary spell to keep him in situ permanently, but there is no argument that results were more positive than they have been under Martin so far.
