Rotherham United could be appointing Leam Richardson as their new manager, according to the latest odds. The former Wigan Athletic manager has reportedly interviewed for the vacant role and is now on the verge of returning to the dug out, with the Millers aiming to survive in the Championship this season.

Rotherham recently parted company with Matt Taylor, and it looked as though Nathan Jones was coming to the New York Stadium to take charge of the Millers. However, he has now drifted in the market, leaving Leam Richardson as the favourite with UK betting sites.

Richardson is a free agent after leaving Wigan a few months ago, with Steve Evans having been linked with a return to the Yorkshire club, although his odds have now drifted and remaining with Stevenage looks likely.

The football betting market originally suggested that Neil Warnock could be making a return to the South Yorkshire club, while Gary Rowett has also been linked with the vacant role.

Jones Drifts to be Millers Manager

It was reported last week that Nathan Jones was holding talks with Rotherham United, with the Welshman potentially making a return to football management. Although Jones had failed spells with Stoke City and Southampton, there is no denying that he was a massive success at Luton Town, guiding the Hatters up the football pyramid and laying the foundations for their Premier League status.

It now looks as if Jones could look closer to home for a role with Swansea City after they parted company with Michael Duff on Monday. The latter are a club with better resources and bigger ambitions, with Rotherham set to pursue other candidates instead.

Richardson a Free Agent Since Wigan Departure

Leam Richardson is a Leeds-born manager who might well be on the shortlist of candidates to replace Matt Taylor. The 44-year-old has previously been successful with Wigan Athletic, with the coach having enjoyed promotion to the Championship with the Latics during the 2021/22 season.

Indeed, that was a title triumph for Richardson, and it was odd timing when he was sacked as the manager on 10 November last year. After all, the manager had previously signed a three-year deal with the club, and Rotherham might consider this candidate as something of a coup. The odds now suggest that the former Latics coach is going to be announced in the coming days.

Warburton Could Fare Well in Championship With Millers

Mark Warburton has plenty of experience managing in the Championship, having been in charge of Queens Park Rangers between 2019-22. Previously to this, he has held roles with Brentford, Glasgow Rangers and Nottingham Forest, with the 61-year-old looking for a new venture after being replaced by Michael Beale at Loftus Road last year.

Warburton enjoyed a strong win rate with Brentford and Rangers, with the manager guiding the Bees to automatic promotion from League One and he also won two pieces of silverware with the Gers. The latest football betting odds suggest that he could be in the running to get this job.

Could Steve Evans Be Tempted by Rotherham Return?

Steve Evans is one of the most successful managers in the history of Rotherham United. The Scot engineered promotion from League Two with the Millers and then took them up to the Championship after winning the League One play-offs in 2014. More recently, he took Stevenage from League Two to the third tier last season, and they’re currently in a good position for a second successive promotion.

The bookies certainly think Evans might make the switch from Stevenage to return to South Yorkshire, although it was eight years ago when he left the New York Stadium. Since then, he has had spells with Leeds United, Mansfield Town, Peterborough United and Gillingham. He currently appears settled at Stevenage.

Could Warnock Perform Another Rescue Act at Rotherham?

Neil Warnock is the go-to manager when a club wants to survive in the Championship, and it’s little surprise to find the 74-year-old was originally trading among the favourites to become the next Rotherham manager with many new UK betting sites. He previously performed heroics when keeping the Millers afloat in the 2015/16 season, engineering an impressive set of results.

That included an 11-game unbeaten run, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if Rotherham sounded out Warnock about the possibility of returning to the New York Stadium on a short-term contract. He has since enjoyed stints with Cardiff City, Middlesbrough and Huddersfield Town, all of which were relatively successful, with the latter especially so.

Although Warnock threatens to retire on a regular basis, there’s always the lure of a club in crisis to tempt him back to the dugout. The Sheffield-born manager seems available when it comes to short-term appointments, with the Millers certainly needing someone experienced to steady the ship.

Rowett Ready for Fresh Challenge After Millwall Success

Gary Rowett was successful at Millwall despite recently parting company with the London club. The former Derby manager had the Lions punching well above their weight in the Championship, and the team came close to securing a spot in the play-offs last season before missing out on the final day.

Rowett is hugely experienced at managing in the Championship, the 43-year-old having enjoyed a four-year spell at Millwall after previously taking charge of Burton Albion, Birmingham City, Derby County and Stoke City. The 49-year-old could certainly be open to the prospect of a quick return to the dugout.

Eustace Could Be Number One Rotherham Target

You would imagine John Eustace is hot property considering the former Birmingham City manager was getting a merry tune out of the team at St Andrews before being recently sacked. This decision was not made on a performance basis but principally so that the owners could bring in Wayne Rooney as a replacement.

The former Republic of Ireland assistant manager will surely return to management soon, and he is rightly mentioned as a candidate with the leading betting sites for the vacant role at Rotherham.
