Erling Haaland was the winner of the 2022/23 PFA Player of the Year award, and the Norwegian is once again favourite to win this accolade at the end of the 2023/24 campaign. The Norwegian managed to score 36 top-flight goals during his maiden season at Manchester City, with the striker having seven on the board from his first five Premier League clashes this time around.

Mohamed Salah and Kevin De Bruyne have previously won this award on more than one occasion, with the Liverpool forward hoping to hit the ground running for a team who aren't playing in the Champions League this season. The Egyptian has been in fine form during the Reds' early clashes, scoring goals and providing assists as his side look to challenge for the title.

If Arsenal can build on last season's success, that could bring Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard into sharper focus, with record signing Declan Rice also a potential contender. The England midfielder has arrived for the princely sum of £105 million, with international team-mates Jack Grealish and Phil Foden also capable of being included on the final shortlist.

You could have bagged enormous odds at betting apps for Martin Odegaard landing the PFA Player of the Year award before the 2022/23 season began, but the 24-year-old traded as second favourite in this market for much of the season.

Marcus Rashford 

Marcus Rashford was a revelation for Manchester United last season. The England man reached 17 Premier League goals for the campaign, his joint-highest total which matched the number of goals he was able to score during the 2019/20 campaign. At the age of 25, it's clear that the forward is capable of reaching even higher levels and he has Champions League football to look forward too.

Bukayo Saka

Kevin De Bruyne

In four of the past six seasons, the PFA Player of the Year award has been won by either Mohamed Salah or Kevin De Bruyne. The latter won his first award in 2019-20, and the Belgian has helped Manchester City win five league titles in six seasons. The Belgian will hope to help his side win multiple trophies this season although he's currently on the sidelines with another injury. 

De Bruyne will admit that he wasn't able to set the Premier League alight last season compared to previous campaigns and perhaps Pep Guardiola no longer depends on the 32-year-old as the beating heart of the team. However, he's demonstrated time and again that he's a big game player who can score decisive goals, with the maestro providing 16 assists in the top-flight last term.

Due to injury, De Bruyne is no longer one of the favourites in the 2023/24 market and perhaps it's Phil Foden or Rodri who might challenge City team-mate Erling Haaland when it comes to this award. There will be a desire for him to win the Ballon d'Or before the end of his career and City's Champions League success last term could make him a viable contender.

Mohamed Salah

Mohamed Salah was one of the 2022/23 PFA Player of the Season betting favourites before a ball was kicked, but his Liverpool team endured a slow start to their campaign and it swiftly materialised that the Egyptian wasn't in the running for an individual prize that he has won on two occasions.

However, the Reds finished the previous campaign strongly and it wouldn't be a surprise if we saw Salah land a big haul this time around, with the African forward having notched 19 goals last term and it's anticipated that he might get closer to the 30 mark this time around. His Liverpool side have made a bright start which has seen them claim four wins from five, with the forward having proven himself as a strong assister of goals recently. 

Salah is clearly the pick of the Liverpool players to win this award, having scored 19 goals and provided 12 assists last term. It appears that the Reds can bounce back after last season's blip and we might see the African return to the sort of form that had him marked out as a future Ballon d'Or winner.
