2025 Ryanair Chase Trends

Finding the winner of the Ryanair Chase isn't always easy, so we've taken a look at the most important Ryanair Chase trends from the last 10 years for you to make placing bets at your chosen horse racing betting sites a doddle. We've used them to find you the best horses to back right now in the Ryanair Chase 2025 on Cheltenham Festival betting sites.

The last 10 winners:

• Were aged no older than nine - a 10-year-old last won in 2011.
• Had run in at least six chases in their career and won at least two.
• Had run in at least three Grade 1s - seven were Grade 1 winners.
• Had won over at least 2m3f before.
• Had run at Cheltenham at least twice before, seven had won.
• Had an official handicap rating over fences of at least 161.
• Last ran no more than 82 days ago - in a chase.
• Had been first or second in one of their last three races - seven of the last nine winners finished first two last time out.

Nine of the last 10 winners:

• Had won on a left-handed course (exception Allaho in 2021)
• Were shorter than 10/1 in the betting (Uxizandre was 16/1)
• Were aged seven or nine (Allaho was an 8yo for his second win)

Key Trials from the last 10 years

• The King George VI Chase at Kempton has thrown up two of the last 10 winners (Vautour and Envoi Allen). Banbridge won it in 2025, chinning long-time leader Il Est Francais, but is more likely to go for the Gold Cup.
• The Ascot Chase has produced winners in the past, but not in the last 10 years. This year's winner, Pic D'orhy, will not be running at Cheltenham.
• The Clarence House Chase at Ascot has also been useful, producing one winner (Un De Sceaux) and several placed finishers. Jonbon won it this year, but is heading for the Champion Chase.
• The Cotswold Chase at Cheltenham was used as 2019 winner Frodon's last run before his Cheltenham Festival win. Neither of the first two home in this year's renewal are entered in the Ryanair.
• Allaho won a chase at Thurles before his two victories.

Trainer Trends

Allaho's 2022 victory cemented Willie Mullins's position as the winning-most trainer in the Ryanair Chase. He's won it five times, all coming in the last ten years. Henry De Bromhead has won two in the last eight years, making it 7-3 to Ireland across the last 10 renewals.

Jockey Trends

Not including retired jockeys, only Paul Townend, leading rider for Willie Mullins, and Rachael Blackmore, leading rider for Henry De Bromhead, have won the race more than once in the last 10 years. Between them, they have won four of the last five renewals.

How Did the Trends do Last Year?

Last year, using Ryanair trends could narrow the field down to four runners. Capodanno, Banbridge and Stage Star were all well-beaten. However, the fourth, and least likely according to the odds, was Protektorat, who won the race. 

Like many of the horses in the betting for this year's Ryanair, it was thought that he might go for another race at the Cheltenham Festival, namely the Gold Cup. However, connections dropped him back in trip for the Ryanair, and he ran out an impressive 17/2 winner.

Who Fits The Trends Best In 2025?

Ideally, you're looking for a 7yo or 9yo in the Ryanair that's short in the betting. Fact To File is the likely favourite, and does tick a lot of boxes, but 8yos don't have that good a record in the race, although that does appear to be something of an anomally. 

That whittles it down to Gaelic Warrior, Banbridge, Il Est Francais, and Spillane's Tower. The first two named are more likely than not to skip the Ryanair in favour of a different Cheltenham engagement, leaving just two to focus on. 

Il Est Francais and Spillane's Tower faced off in the King George at Kempton in December, with Il Est Francais finishing second, more than 15 lengths ahead of Spillane's Tower. Taking that form into account, along with the trends from the last 10 years, he's the one to be with.
