Key Trials from the last 10 years

  • The King George VI Chase at Kempton has thrown out two of the last 10 winners (Vautour, and Dynaste). Bravemansgame won this season's renewal, beating Royale Pagaille by 14 lengths.
  • The Ascot Chase has also thrown a winner in the last 10 winners (Cue Card) and a host of placed finishers.
  • The Clarence House Chase at Ascot has also been useful, producing one winner (Un De Sceaux) and several placed finishers. This year's race was moved to Cheltenham due to ground conditions.
  • The Cotswold Chase at Cheltenham was used 2019 winner Frodon's last run before his Cheltenham Festival win.
  • Allaho has won a chase at Thurles before his two victories.

Trainer Trends

Allaho's 2021 victory elevated Willie Mullins to winning-most trainer status in the Ryanair Chase and his 2022 win means he has now won. Mullins the last three renewals, and five of the last seven.

Jockey Trends

Only Paul Townend, leading rider for Willie Mullins, has won the race more than once in the last 10 years.

How did the trends do last year?

As the defending champion Allaho did fit the bill on trends, as he had done the previous year when he'd won the race for the first time.
Things could be slightly different this year as he has not yet run since following up his Cheltenham win with victory at the Punchestown Festival in April 2022.

Who Fits The Trends Best In 2023?

Allaho is clearly a good trends fit again this year as he seeks a third win on the bounce, but the concern is that he has not run since April 2022.

In the two seasons previous, he had run in December and January.

Applying trends whittles his key challengers down to Fakir D'Oudairies, the 2021 second who this year won the Thurles Chase that Allaho normally uses as a prep run, and Galopin Des Champs, Allaho's stablemate who won the Grade 1 John Durkan Chase at Punchestown in December.

He was 12 lengths clear when falling at the last in the Turners Novices' Chase at Cheltenham last March and would be looking to make amends.
