Joe Mazzulla, NBA Coach of the Year

We’re not sure a coach could take over an NBA team in a more awkward and unique situation than Mazzulla did after replacing Ime Udoka before the season began.

Malcolm Brogdon, NBA Sixth Man of the Year 

Odds: +110 at FanDuel

Malcolm Brogdon has been outstanding in his Sixth Man role in his first season with the Celtics. He’s come on strong lately, averaging 17.2 points on 51/49/91 shooting and 3.4 assists. 

He’s had 15 games of 20+ points, 11 games with 6+ assists, and has been his usual lockdown self on the defensive end. He’s in a tight race with New York’s Immanuel Quickley, and we think Brogdon’s consistency will push him ahead in the season’s final month.

Jayson Tatum, Regular Season MVP 

Odds: +3600 at FanDuel

Here’s a bet we thought had a great shot of hitting earlier in the year. Tatum will win an NBA MVP before his career is over, but it won’t happen in 2023. A sluggish February in which he “only” averaged 25.5 points on 43% shooting likely took him out of the race. 

He’s a distant fourth behind Nikola Jokic, Joel Embiid, and Giannis Antetokounmpo. There’s no real value here even if the Celtics were to overtake Milwaukee in the final month of the regular season. We’re sure Tatum would settle for a Finals MVP in three months.
