Paul Heckingbottom is trading at odds-on when it comes to the Premier League Sack Race market after an 8-0 humiliation at the hands of Newcastle United.

Sheffield United supporters left in their droves before the full-time whistle and the Yorkshire outfit are currently set to return to the Championship based on their performances so far, although a change of manager could clearly see an upturn in fortunes.

There are rumours that Chris Wilder might be making a return to a club he originally helped to secure a double promotion, while Slaven Bilic and Neil Warnock are some of the other potential names who could in the frame when markets open at football betting sites

The Next Sheffield United Manager Betting Odds

The best bookies might well be putting together a next Sheffield United manager betting market. Paul Heckingbottom remains in charge for now, with the former Leeds United manager having been promoted from the Blades Under-23s to become the new first team head coach in 2021.

Heckingbottom steered United to second place in the Championship last season, although he was slow to be backed in the transfer market, with the Yorkshire outfit having landed just a solitary point from their opening six games. While we're still at an early stage of the campaign, it could be that Sheffield United look to make a change after the manager admitting his team were 'outfought' and 'outrun' against Newcastle.

Chris Wilder is currently a free agent and is likely to be one of the betting app favourites to replace Heckingbottom and make an emotional return to the club. There could be other candidates in the running including Danny Cowley and Nathan Jones.

Would Wilder Make a Sheffield United Return?

A few days ago, it was being reported by some media outlets that Chris Wilder had been sounded out about potentially returning to Sheffield United as manager. It remains to be seen whether there's any substance to these rumours, although the fact that Paul Heckingbottom is trading at odds-on in the Sack Race market with most new betting sites implies that this change could be made.

Wilder was in charge of the Blades between 2016 and 2021, earning rave reviews for the way in which he engineered a promotion from League One to the Championship. Within a couple of seasons, Wilder then achieved an even greater feat by accomplishing promotion with his beloved club. He was then able to enjoy a brilliant first season in the top flight before parting company.

The 55-year-old was most recently in charge of Watford for a short spell after having a mixed time of things at Middlesbrough previously. However, we might see him return to the helm at Bramall Lane.

Could Frank Lampard Be the Next Blades Boss?

Frank Lampard was seemingly out of his depth when taking charge of Chelsea, and things at Everton didn't work out particularly well. However, the former England midfielder might be interested in the chance to return to Premier League management.

The 45-year-old might still be hungry to enjoy a successful career and he has experience of a battle against relegation when keeping Everton afloat two seasons ago. However, he did continue to struggle in charge of the Toffees last term and was given his marching orders to be replaced by Sean Dyche last season. He then had a disastrous spell as caretaker boss back at Chelsea following Graham Potter's sacking.

Would Neil Warnock Return to Bramall Lane?

Neil Warnock is a stickler for football management, and it's not completely out of the question that we see the vastly experienced manager take charge at Bramall Lane this season. While the 74-year-old has just stood aside at Championship team Huddersfield Town, it could be that he finds it hard to resist the lure of Sheffield United, a team where he was manager for a decade between 1997-2007.

This is a club with which he has a rich history, and that includes steering them to an FA Cup and League Cup semi-final, with United also achieving promotion to the Premier League in 2006.

Cowley Looks Like a Value Bet to Manage Blades

Danny Cowley was in charge of Portsmouth earlier this year, although the 44-year-old is now a free agent and looking for fresh opportunities. He made his name during his time at Lincoln City where he was able to return the Red Imps to the Football League and lay the foundations for them to become a League One outfit.

Two relatively short spells with Huddersfield and Pompey meant that he wasn't able to experience the same level of success as with Lincoln, so perhaps it might be something of a risk to hire him at this point in time.
