The football betting sites take an increasingly dim view of Everton's Premier League survival chances this season. Despite having played just five games, it appears the Toffees will once again be scrapping against the drop, having taken just one point from their first five clashes.

The latest odds suggest that the Merseyside outfit are still more likely to stay afloat than go down to the Championship, although the only teams who are trading at a shorter price are Luton Town and Sheffield United who have a point between them.

The Hatters have already been written off by the best betting apps after four successive defeats, although only one of their games has been played at Kenilworth Road, and it's too early to write off any team. Similarly, the Blades came close to landing three points at Tottenham before a dramatic late defeat.

It would be a surprise if all three teams promoted from the Championship managed to stay afloat as they did last season, with Burnley also making a stuttering start. According to the latest odds, Bournemouth and Wolves could also be vulnerable.

Everton On a Downward Spiral This Season

Everton have narrowly avoided relegation from the Premier League for two consecutive seasons, although the early signs suggest they could suffer the drop this time around. A 1-0 home defeat against Fulham was followed by a 4-0 reverse at Villa Park, with the Merseyside outfit then being beaten 1-0 at home to Wolves before landing their first point of the campaign thanks to a 2-2 draw away to Sheffield United.

However, a 1-0 defeat at home to Arsenal keeps the Toffees in the relegation zone, with Everton having just 26% possession in that clash and one shot on target. The clearest issue is that the team are struggling to score goals, and they've mustered just two if you don't include their 2-1 EFL Cup win away to League Two Doncaster Rovers. The financial budget at Goodison Park means that manager Sean Dyche has struggled to bolster the squad in order to be competitive in the top flight.

We're talking about a team who mustered just 36 points from 38 games last term. It looks certain that Everton will finish in the bottom half of the table again this season, and they travel to Brentford for a tricky clash this coming weekend before consecutive home clashes against Luton and Bournemouth.

Luton Town Relegation Bankers According to Odds

Rob Edwards was sacked as Watford manager during the early part of the 2022/23 season, but he was installed as Nathan Jones' replacement at arch-rivals Luton Town and will now be focused on keeping the Hatters afloat after an incredible promotion through the Championship play-offs.

Staying in the Premier League won't be easy and the latest relegation odds suggest that there's a high probability that the Bedfordshire outfit will finish in the bottom three this term. They began the season with a 4-1 defeat at Brighton, and this was followed by a 3-0 reverse at Chelsea, while the first home match of the season resulted in West Ham winning 2-1 before a 1-0 defeat at Fulham.

With last season's promoted trio of Fulham, Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest all staying up last season, there's still a case to be made for Luton, who have signed Chiedozie Ogbene, Mads Andersen, Tahith Chong and Marvelous Nakamba. It's clear they have an astute manager who will be hoping to follow Bournemouth's example and build a team capable of finishing 17th or higher and defying the odds at new betting sites.

Sheffield United Set to Suffer in Premier League?

Sheffield United have been something of a yo-yo club between the Premier League and Championship in recent seasons. The Blades were recently in the top flight under Chris Wilder before finishing rock bottom of the table in 2020/21, so Paul Heckingbottom will be determined that the Yorkshire outfit avoid the same fate in the 2023/24 campaign.

There have been some red flags already, with Sander Berge surprisingly leaving Bramall Lane to sign for Burnley. Heckingbottom hasn't been backed with a huge amount of funding, although the signing of Cameron Archer could help boost the goal tally, and the team put up a spirited display to earn a 2-2 draw against Everton. They came desperately close to getting something away at Tottenham before a dramatic 2-1 defeat.

The latest odds from betting apps suggest a losing battle when it comes to staying afloat in the Premier League, and the season began with that home reverse against Crystal Palace, although Gustavo Hamer looks to be an inspired signing after his goals against Nottingham Forest and Spurs.

Nottingham Forest Boost Survival Hopes With Win at Chelsea

Nottingham Forest were scrapping against the drop throughout last season although Steve Cooper's team have aimed their sights higher this time around. They have six points on the board going into the international break and it could be more considering they led 2-0 at Old Trafford before losing.

Forest sit ninth in the table and the bookies think that a season of survival is on the cards despite the sale of Brennan Johnson to Tottenham Hotspur. The 1-0 win at Chelsea saw Anthony Elanga fire the winner, with the Midlands side able to claim a victory despite having little possession. It appears that they no longer have a weak defensive underbelly on the road, having pushed Arsenal and Manchester United close.

Forest clash with Burnley in their first game after the international break and they will then head to the Etihad Stadium before hosting Brentford. They will hope to accumulate plenty of points through the autumn months and pull away from the teams near the foot of the table, with Elanga and Morgan Gibbs-White capable of propelling the team to new heights.

Can Bournemouth Keep Heads Above Water?

Betting sites have Bournemouth as one of the favourites for relegation right now and it appears likely that the Cherries will be in a scrap against the drop. Andoni Iraola has replaced Gary O'Neil and the team have earned just three points from their opening five matches.

Iraola earned rave reviews for the work done with Rayo Vallecano in La Liga although he will be keenly aware that Bournemouth are a small fish in a big pond. The Dorset outfit received a boost with a comeback EFL Cup win away to Swansea City where they enjoyed a 3-2 victory, and they were able to secure a point at Brentford ahead of the international break before holding Chelsea to a goalless draw.

The betting odds illustrate that Bournemouth will be looking over their shoulders once again next season, although they will draw comfort from having three promoted sides to try to finish above. Having enjoyed a term of consolidation, perhaps we can see this team stay afloat again, with Tyler Adams having been a notable recent signing.

Can O'Neil Rescue Wolves From the Drop?

Gary O'Neil was able to heroically keep Bournemouth in the Premier League last season and he's been tasked with a similar job at Molineux. It was a blow to lose Matheus Nunes to Manchester City on transfer deadline day, with Wolverhampton Wanderers regarded among the favourites on the relegation market.

Wolves began their 2023/24 season with a daunting trip to Old Trafford, although they could easily have left with three points. The Midlands side then hosted Brighton at Molineux before getting hammered 4-1 by the Seagulls. However, they achieved lift-off with a 1-0 victory at Goodison Park, with Sasa Kalajdzic scoring a late winner for Wanderers before a 3-2 defeat at Crystal Palace. They then took the lead against Liverpool before losing 3-1.

Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho, Adama Traore, Nathan Collins and Raul Jimenez are among those who have left the club, with Wanderers having also sold Matheus Nunes for £53 million shortly before transfer deadline day. However, O'Neil has that track record of keeping Bournemouth afloat in the Premier League last season and the fact that Luton and Sheffield United are trading so short for the drop boosts their hopes of survival.

Fulham Could Also Be Vulnerable to Drop

Fulham began their Premier League season with a 1-0 win at Everton, with Bobby Decordova-Reid's goal enough to seperate the two teams at Goodison Park. This has been followed by heavy defeats against Brentford and Manchester City, although these results sandwiched a 2-2 draw at Arsenal.

Marco Silva was linked with a move to Saudi Arabia during the summer, although the Portuguese is now focused on emulating last season's top-half finish where the Cottagers finished a very respectable tenth in their first season back in the Premier League. The big issue is that the team are now missing Aleksandr Mitrovic who has decided to complete a move to Saudi Arabia, although a 1-0 win over Luton was recently achieved.

Silva was able to sign Alex Iwobi during the transfer window despite missing out on Manchester United midfielder Fred. It will be hoped that former Wolves striker Raul Jimenez is able to adequately replace Aleksandr Mitrovic although Fulham's relegation odds implies that they are far from immune.
