Week 10 NFL Betting Trends

The betting public was demolished financially in Week 9. Underdogs covered in 10 of 14 games as the nation’s sports betting apps stockpiled digital Benjamins. After 135 games in 2021, underdogs hold an overall 77-57-1 (57%) edge ATS.

Don’t Ignore The Over/Under

Bettors should never feel compelled to wager on a spread or moneyline if they’re not comfortable with either the play or the price. We’ve seen dozens of games this season miss on double-digit spread totals. As the season progresses and injuries make more of an impact, often there is value on the posted totals.

And while betting on the under is far less enjoyable for in-game bettors, it often proves the wiser play. Through 254 games with a decision on the total, 139 have hit on the under. That’s a win rate of 54.8%. Always focus on the actual line at betting sites and not what it should be. In this case, it’s been one of the books setting their totals too high.

A total of 20 NFL teams have averaged outcomes below the total this season. The Packers are the best bet for under backers, averaging 6.2 points below their closing total while hitting the under in 7 of 9 games (77.8%).

The Colts have the best overall percentage when it comes to hitting the over, doing it in 6 of their 9 games, or 66.7%. The New York Jets, yes, the same Jets that have not won a Super Bowl since Lyndon Johnson was in the White House, have delivered for over betters in 5 of 8 starts. They also have the highest average number of points vs. the total this season through eight games. They are averaging 5.6 points above the posted number. Something to keep in mind for when New York online sports betting goes live, which is expected in 2022.
