This is very much a make or break clash in the League Two promotion race
With five wins in their last six League Two outings, Wimbledon are certainly underlining their play-off credentials although they will be in for a battle when Carlisle United head to town tonight.
Nevertheless, following a rather inconsistent start to the season, Wimbledon have managed to climb into the top half of the table and could conceivably threaten the automatic promotion contenders should results continue to improve as they have been of late.
With recent wins against Luton and Barnet, can Wimbledon manage a third consecutive victory against a somewhat uncertain Carlisle United side?
To be fair, the Cumbrians have had a very patchy season so far and appear to be struggling to find their best form at the moment. A dismal 1-0 defeat at Newport County was followed by a similarly dismal 1-1 draw at Accrington, although things improved at the weekend with a much-needed win over Stevenage.
A similar victory over Wimbledon this evening would be a huge statement of intent, however more importantly it would propel the Cumbrians further up the League Two table and with both sides within spitting distance of each other, this clash could prove to be a make or break encounter in the promotion race.
Indeed, very little separates these sides and they are certainly evenly matched, however the hosts have been enjoying some excellent form and will make life very hard for the visiting Cumbrians, especially with Akinfenwa looking to seal his sixth goal of the season.
Nevertheless, Carlisle United have also been working very hard and despite falling to a 1-0 defeat against Newport County earlier in the month, they will be confident of avoiding defeat in this clash.
