Jurgen Klopp is not taking any competition lightly this season and that includes the League Cup where his team are two rounds away from a Wembley final.

Having beaten Bournemouth in the previous round, Liverpool now head south for a clash which will see Nathaniel Clyne, Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren line up against their former club.

The Reds tend not to lose since Jurgen Klopp took charge, with just the one defeat experienced in ten matches, while they have found a way to win six of their previous seven encounters.

Therefore, it could be worth backing the visitors at St Mary’s, with Philippe Coutinho expected to recover from a hamstring injury to be available for this clash, while Daniel Sturridge and Jordan Henderson both came off the bench to feature against Swansea on Sunday.

It was not a great performance from Liverpool at the weekend, although the 1-0 win was ground out against a disciplined Swans team and we will surely see Southampton offer more attacking invention as they are the home team.

The sides met recently at Anfield where the game finished 1-1, although Liverpool have found plenty of improvement since then as can be seen from the 3-1 triumph at Stamford Bridge and then the 4-1 demolition of Manchester City at the Etihad.

Klopp has plenty of options, whereas Southampton are more limited, even if they can welcome back Graziano Pelle from suspension. Dusan Tadic might also start this game after being on the bench at the Etihad Stadium although the Saints have experienced consecutive defeats.

Liverpool’s best performances under Klopp have been on the road and the return of Coutinho could potentially edge things in favour of the Merseyside team. You certainly wouldn’t want to be opposing them right now with their will to get the job done.
