With the going expecting to be heavy for this two-miler, you will want a thorough stayer. The leader of the market overnight Maxident has that and could be well treated. Finished just three-quarters of a length back from winner Justus on seasonal reappearance at Pontefract on heavy ground over two furlongs further than Saturday’s 2m2f. Won on debut by 50 lengths on heavy ground, albeit in a three-runner field, and should be in better shape for that first run last month so can give a really good account in this one.

Last year, Hi Royal made the running and finished second at 125/1, and while we aren’t going that far down the betting this year, the run style is one to target. Karl Burke is extremely confident that his Night Raider can run a big race. It’s tough to find an angle to beat City Of Troy, but stealing the race from the front could be the way. This is a big step up on the two Southwell races he’s dominated from the front so far in his career, but he’s an interesting each way pick at the prices.

What is the Staking Plan and How Does a 1pt Win System Work?

We advise each bet as a win single or sometimes as an each way single. You can of course choose to combine the selections in a multiple bet, a Lucky 15 or a Yankee etc and that is a very popular way to follow the horses selected in this column daily.

A 1pt win per horse is advised in general and that means whatever your normal stake is for a bet is used as a point. For many this is £1 and for some this is £10 or more but it is totally relative to the individual and shouldn’t be more than you can afford to lose at any time. 

For each way selections we advise a 0.5pt each way stake. So as with the win selections this would be a £1 total bet (50 pence each way) or a £10 total bet (£5 each way).
