5 Great LSU Prop Bets to Back in 2020 National Championship

5 Great LSU Prop Bets to Back in 2020 National Championship
  • URL Copied!

Let’s get one thing straight. We love LSU in the National Championship. No disrespect toward Clemson or anything, but the Bayou Bengals are having one of those seasons. One of those once-in-a-lifetime, you’re not allowed to complain about the Saints losing, holy crap don’t let this LSU ride end seasons.

We’re comfortable taking Joe Burrow and Co. at -6 over Clemson, though LSU has dropped to -5.5 depending on where you look (check out our title game picks here). Luckily, we’re not just limited to spread and total betting this week. The big game in the Big Easy means all sorts of prop bets are available. One can even wager on which team will take the first penalty of the game (false start Clemson thanks to a raucous Superdome, anyone?).

Seems to us like a good opportunity to further load up on LSU with a variety of Bayou Bengal-focused prop bets ahead of Monday’s title game in New Orleans.

Pick 1: Joe Burrow Over 3.5 Passing TDs

The guy threw four touchdowns in less than 20 minutes against Oklahoma in the Peach Bowl. It was his eighth game this season with at least four touchdown passes, and we like him to hit the number again against Clemson. Burrow has a ton of talent to work with and put the ball on the money with the most accurate single-season passing performance in college football history.

Pick 2: Clyde Edwards-Helaire Under 51.5 receiving yards

LSU’s star running back took it easy against Oklahoma while nursing an injury, carrying it just twice for 14 yards. The Bayou Bengals had been targeting Edwards-Helaire as a receiver more often in recent months, but they might opt to give him less work Monday as he comes back from a hamstring injury. We like Edwards-Helaire to have a big impact in this one. Just not as a pass catcher.

Pick 3: Ja’Marr Chase most receiving yards

The line is solid at +123 and we believe his biggest threat, Clemson’s Tee Higgins, will have his hands full against LSU cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. Chase racked up nearly 1,600 yards this season with 18 touchdowns. He’s gone over 100 yards eight times and posted 197 yards on seven catches in a blowout win over Texas A&M just three games ago. There’s plenty of star power at receiver going into this one. We like Chase to finish on top.

Pick 4: Terrace Marshall Jr. Over 60.5 receiving yards

Marshall missed a few games with injury in the middle of the season. It wasn’t until his return that this LSU offense became what it is now, going from a great unit to seemingly unstoppable down the stretch. Marshall is also coming off games with 89 yards on five catches against Georgia and six catches for 80 yards against Oklahoma. With so much attention on Chase and Justin Jefferson, Marshall breaks free as an X-factor Monday night.

Pick 5: Joe Burrow Over 30.5 rushing yards

We saw Clemson’s defensive line get after Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields in the Fiesta Bowl. They should have some success there against a decent LSU offensive line, but that’s when Burrow can be dangerous. He’s extremely decisive when he runs the ball and can turn on the jets in a hurry. He also refuses to slide. We’ll take that extra yard or two on each run while assuming none of the injury risk. Burrow’s legs were a huge difference in wins over Alabama and Georgia, and we expect him to burn Clemson for a few big gains in New Orleans.
