Lukaku will make a permanent move from Chelsea to Everton for a fee in the region of £23.5 million
Romelu Lukaku spent last season on loan at Goodison Park and it appears that the Belgian is set to become a permanent fixture at Everton FC.
The forward arrived in Merseyside for a medical on Wednesday and will become the most expensive signing in the history of the club, with Jose Mourinho happy to allow Lukaku to leave Stamford Bridge.
Some Chelsea fans questioned the wisdom of allowing Lukaku to leave on loan last season as Samuel Eto’o, Demba Ba and Fernando Torres all struggled to score goals, although the arrival of Diego Costa means that the Belgian is now surplus to requirements.
The move will delight Everton fans who were wondering where the goals were going to come from next season, with Lukaku expected to link up with Ross Barkley as the latter looks to operate in the number ten role.
Lukaku is expected to sign a five-year contract at Goodison Park and, though reports from Belgium of a €38m transfer fee are inflated, the deal will represent a club record transfer for Everton, in the region of £22-25m.
The 21-year-old scored 15 goals in 29 appearances for the Toffees last term and will hope to improve on this strike rate come the new season, with Arouna Kone providing competition for places in attack.
A couple of days ago, Roberto Martinez dropped a strong hint that Lukaku would become a permanent signing at Everton, with the Merseyside club beating a host of other outfits to his signature last term for the season-long loan deal.
