Can Liverpool Play Catch Up After Terrible Week in Premier League and Europa League?

Liverpool had a disappointing 2022-23 season. The Reds were never in the Premier League title race after dropping too many points in their first few games, while they were unable to retain the two domestic cup trophies that they had won in the previous campaign. Liverpool have already secured one trophy this season after beating Chelsea 1-0 after extra time in the Carabao Cup, and they will have their sights set on a treble in Klopp's final season.

The Merseyside outfit are certainly Premier League title contenders and currently enjoy a three-point cushion over champions Manchester City and two points above Arsenal at the top of the Premier League, while they are also warm favourites to win the Europa League with most betting sites, and the stiffest competition could come in the form of Bayer Leverkusen and Milan. Ironically, it could be the current Leverkusen manager, Xabi Alonso, who ends up as the next Liverpool manager.

At the beginning of the season, you could have secured odds of 1500/1 with the best betting apps that the Reds landed a quadruple, but while that dream has ended, they are still just a 16/5 shot to secure a dramatic treble in Klopp's final season.

The Reds have won the EFL Cup, but football betting sites can no longer offer odds on the quadruple as the club were knocked out of the FA Cup by Manchester United in extra time in the quarter-final.

Can Liverpool Land Cup Double This Season?

There's no doubt Liverpool are effective as a team in the cup competitions, with BetMGM making them a 1/1 chance to secure the Europa League title along with the League Cup. They were able to land both the League Cup and FA Cup two seasons ago by beating Chelsea in the respective finals in penalty shootouts.

The Reds are favourites with betting sites to win the Europa League but were knocked out in the sixth round of the FA Cup against Manchester United.

The Europa League looks winnable after winning their group, and sitting on the better side of the knockout draw, and the bookies make the Reds the standout team who remain in the competition. It's certainly a competition Liverpool will take seriously despite the fact the current campaign is just a hiatus from the Champions League.

Liverpool Determined to Challenge for Title

Liverpool never got going in the Premier League last season. It was clear from an early stage that a title assault was unlikely, and the team were especially poor away from Anfield, where wins were scarce. Things did improve towards the end of the 2022/23 season and some strong form saw the Reds come close to qualifying for the Champions League.

However, there will be hope that Liverpool can not only land a top-four spot this season but actually challenge Manchester City for the title. They were crowned champions in 2019/20 and have run Pep Guardiola's side close on several other occasions, with Klopp hoping that his attacking department is able to fire home the goals needed for success.

Mohamed Salah has helped Liverpool to the top of the Premier League table, and 67 points from 29 games is a very solid return.
